Our vacation in California
January 2000

Last Updated 2/8/00

Our main purpose was to visit Ryan. He lives and works at the house at the point of the white arrow. Not a bad view........

This is the view from Ry's room at the hostel and then a closer view of the beach that you see at the bottom of the picture at the top of this page.

The three of us in front of the house where Ry lives. The picture on the left is of the room that Peggy and I called home while we stayed at the hostel where Ry works.

Ry and Peggy at the back of his house as we were getting ready to leave.

The view of the Golden Gate Bridge from on top of the hill behind Ry's house.

On our first day. Ry took us to Fisferman's Wharf. We ate at Pier 39 and had our picture taken with Alcatraz in the background.

Over 200 sea lions have taken over a bunch of the old boat docks at Pier 39. And then we found a little fishing boat with Ryan's name on it.

Although it was raining, we went out to the Point Bonita Lighthouse. You had to get to it along a winding path and this suspension bridge which could only hold 5 people at a time. That's Peggy and Ry out on the bridge.

This is a view of Alcatraz as taken from the Sausalito to San Francisco Ferr.

Peggy and Ry behind bars and the actual cell portrayed in the movie "Escape from Alcatraz" where an inmate dug out around the vent area of the cell to escape through an internal shaft.

The view of San Francisco from Alcatraz.

We spent part of Ryan's birthday up in the Napa Valley. We toured the Robert Mondavi Winery and we stopped at LaFamiglia which is run by a University School classmate of Bob's.

Ryan drove us down Lombard Street. Although we took pictures, this postcard shows it best..

They still turn the cable cars by hand when they reach the ends of the lines.

We all took a ride on the cable car from the Wharf into the city and back.

We picked up a cake for Ry at a local store and Ry was "thrilled" with one of his presents, freeze-dried lasagna.

We spent the last afternoon and evening with Peggy's brother, Bill, and his wife, Jeanine. On the left are Bill, Peggy and Jeanine just off of the Pacific Coast Highway 1 overlooking the ocean. On the right is a view facing up north towards San Francisco.

Bill also drove us down under the Golden Gate Bridge for a different perspective.

This is Bill & Jeanine's house, the view from their deck and the view of their backyard where the deer come to feed and play.
