Hello and welcome to our home on the page. We got married on Halloween, 2000. The ceremony was on the beach of the Marin Headlands and the reception was a stylin' costume party at the wonderful hostel where we both worked. You can find a few pictures at my father's website. And you can find a few more at the site we created before the big occasion (with FAQ about the wedding), and which we updated later with pics of the ceremony and reception. Check out our wedding website.
November and December 2000 saw our honeymoon to northern Europe and eastern Africa. Highlights included visiting the Lightship in Glastonbury, England; Ryan tracing his ancestors in Vaxjo, Sweden; hanging out at Svanholm organic farm in Denmark; seeing lions and tigers and elephants (oh my!) on safari in Kenya; and a day visiting a small school near the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. But the highlight was the 10 days we spent in Arusha, Tanzania as volunteer teachers for the Tupendance Center/Children for Children's Future, a school for children who've been living on the streets. If you'd like to see some pictures of the honeymoon, find them here. (We hope to add captions in the near future.)
In January 2001, Ryan went to Ban Phe, Thailand to study Teaching English as a Foreign Language (and pick up a certificate in same), while Kaci stayed in California to plan for her February trip to Chiapas, Mexico. But she surprised him on his birthday, by walking into his class. You can find a few shots of both of us at TEFL International's Pics Page. (oops--they've deleted half the pictures, so now you can't see Kaci, just Ryan eating pizza.) After ten days lounging on the beach while Ryan taught English to local Thai students, she returned to the States. And then on to Mexico, before we both met up back in California.
We spent summer 2001 looking for the place that would be home for the next few years, and that took us to Oberlin, Ohio where Ryan worked with the student co-ops and Kaci taught at the local middle school. But then came summer 2003 and it was time for new adventures. We headed out to see the country with Lola, the short yellow school bus we found on EBay. Elsewhere on this site, you should be able to read a few of our dispatches from the road, published in the Oberlin News-Tribune.
Now it's the start of a new year, and we've found ourselves settling in for 6 months in Hollister, California. Kaci's working at the local paper until she starts grad school in the fall. I'll be working on my novel. Look for it in a year or three wherever fine books are sold.
